When You want to Own a Legend

Slingerland is a legendary name in the drum-making industry, and their Radio King snare drums are the company’s flagship drum. Production began in the 1930’s, and was halted. The early 1960’s saw production begin again, and Slingerland Radio King Snare Drum models continue to hit the market in new and updated versions. These collector-quality drums produce fantastic sound, as well. The single ply Maple shell, reinforced with Maple rings, delivers exceptionally bright tone that is both warm and crisp. Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich Radio King’s and they continue to be a favorite choice among drummers in all skill levels. Eventually, steel and brass snare drums were added to the lineup, as well, though currently Gibson is producing only traditional maple models.

This classic name is back on track under Gibson’s ownership, and the traditional maple is finding a new generation of admirers. The product line available new and used is somewhat inconsistent in quality, so we give them just a 4 Star rating.
