Likes
The Tama Swingstar Snare Drum has a reputation among drummers for being a solid performer, featuring good, crisp sound with a very pleasing ring. The steel body is very durable, and the 8 lugs are easy to adjust. Once in tune, it stays put till the player wants to change it. The internal components are of good quality, and will endure. Used Swingstars are generally in good condition and are available at affordable prices.
Dislikes
This snare does not rise to the level of being a collectible, or even “vintage,” because the sound was good, but never great. If you pick up a Tama Swingstar Snare Drum expect to change the heads on it, as most exhibit a lot of wear.
Overall Rating - 4 Stars
The Tama Swingstar Snare Drum is a sturdy, reliable performer, and the used ones available would serve as very good entry level snares. Mainly due to durability and a lack of glaring weaknesses, we give it 4 Stars.
