Rogers Dynasonic Snare Drum Review

Powerful Sound, Promising Value

It is a tribute to the Rogers drum company that two of their stellar lines are among the most collectible snare drums around. The Rogers Dynasonic snare drum models available on the market go quickly, and they bring in a very nice price. Experts believe that these drums will continue to rise in value, making them an investment grade instrument. Oh, and it might be worth mentioning that their value is attributable to a some of the most robust sound ever made by a line of snares, and the fact that they exhibit fantastic durability. Most Dynasonics are chrome over brass, with fewer models being made from 5-ply maple and poplar, providing beefy tones. Both types are collectible, with the wood models being rarer, and therefore, more sought after. The standard size of this snare was 5X14, though other models were produced.

Likes

The Rogers Dynasonic Snare Drum was played by the likes of Buddy Rich and Louie Bellson, with newer Rogers’ products being the favored drums of many of today’s well-known rockers. These drums are known for their rich, traditional sound that can be tuned up for crisp pop, or tuned down for a beefier beat.

Dislikes

The price of a quality used Dynasonic usually starts at about $350, and can easily top $1,000. Therefore, it can be tough for some drummers/collectors to get a hold of one. If you do own one, finding replacement hardware can be difficult.

Overall Rating – 5 Stars

It would be hard to give any lesser rating to a snare drum known the world over for its quality and perfect sound. The Rogers Dynasonic snare drum is a vintage line that deserves 5 Stars.

My go to snares are my 70’s Dyna Sonic 14×5, and my Cherrywood Truth stave snare 12×7, 1-1/2” thick shell. Between the two of them, I need nothing more. They can both be adjusted and tuned to whatever needs have arisen.

I’m not familiar with the Cherrywood Truth snare you mentioned. Could you give me link to it?

Have owned a dynasonic snare since 1968. Never saw any need for any other snare. It covers every possible sound you might need. Go to the studio and tune for the song, adjust the snare wires for a loose, medium or chocking sound, no problem. The best, thousands of gigs and recording dates. Never let me down. Always sounded just right no matter how it was tuned or muffled.
