Excellence Comes in Twenty-One Flavors!

The designers at Yamaha drums have been listening to their roster of professional drummers for years, using their feedback to turn out highly rated and raved over products. When it came to snares, they gave up trying to please the pros with one or two models, and the Yamaha Signature snare drum series was born. The best quality materials go into every shell in this line. With hardware and heads to match. Rich, hard rock maple, mellow birch, and durable beech woods are used. The metallurgy includes steel, copper, and brass, in a variety of stellar finishes.

Steve Gadd achieves his signature sound using a trio of snares. Two of which are nickel plated steel with vintage wood hoops. The third is a traditional 6.5X14 birch beauty. Steve Jordan opts for a classic fat 6.5X13 that produces rich, powerful pop. Dave Weckl prefers a setup featuring 8-ply maple in 5X13 and 5X14 dimensions which offer him tremendous versatility in the tuning range.

Likes

The Yamaha Signature snare drum is very diverse. Drummers love the fact that they can find the snares to give them the sound they want. Every model is made to exacting quality standards and professional specifications. Most models feature wide tuning ranges for low, fat tones to high, tight ones. While most models in the line are not cheap, they are competitively priced in the professional grade market.

Dislikes

Some drummers feel priced out of the market. However, the used market can yield some very good deals on the Yamaha Signature snare drum line. There are virtually no complaints to be heard about quality, sound, or durability.

Overall Rating – 5 Stars

One might expect to find a line this diverse to be inconsistent in quality, but this is not the case. Yamaha has delivered snares the professionals are happy to put their names to. For this reason, you’ll be happy to play the one that best fits your style. A job well done earns Yamaha 5 Stars.
